History of Khanom

What was once known as Muang Tranom a town founded 800 years ago by the King U-thong. The center for sea-trade and Buddhist cultural arrts. The name of the town was later known as Panom and Khao Nom and now Khanom. Under the reign of King Rama the Fifth Khanom became a village of Ta-saala district. 1959 the village was re-ranked to the district level under the jurisdiction of Nakhon Sri Thammarat province.
Khanom is a small village with fishing, rubber and coconut plantations as the main source of income. Tourists presently have not discovered Khanom. Native fishermen are still be seen around the area with colorful fishing boats. Their catches are served up in hotels and resort restaurants.

Khanom's attractions

Khanom has many attractions, sea beaches and water sports: swimming, sailing, suba-diving, water-skiing, and scuba diving. Seafood one of Khanom's main incomes is fresh and delicious and there is wide range of hotels, bungalows and villas availible.
